Premiere
Iris ter Schiphorst (*1956): Work commissioned by the Festival for Recorder and String Quartet (world premiere)
Franz Schubert (1797–1828): G Major String Quartet
Nowhere did Franz Schubert stretch his tonal limits more than in the G Major quartet. Its presymphonic sonority anticipates Bruckner’s and Mahler’s ideas, testing the limits of harmonic tonality and capturing the listener with its perceptibly existential struggle for expression. Typically for the Hitzacker Summer Festival, this extreme work of the traditional repertoire will be juxtaposed with the innovative challenge of a world premiere. The commissioned work was created by Iris der Schiphorst, born in 1956 in Hamburg, Germany.
