Four Past Four: In(ter)vention II – Listening.Different Twice: Electroacoustic Work open air

At the 2019 Festival, there was immensely positive reaction to Clemens von Reusner’s fascinating electroacoustic work “Grenzgang” (Walk along the Border) along and in the Elbe River, transposed by the composer in a performance at the historic department store building in Dömitz. In an open-air concert, the composer plans to set his new acoustic experience inspired by Schubert’s B-flat Major Piano Sonata D 960 (work called KRENE, commissioned by the Festival), using multi-channel speakers, in the natural surroundings of Hitzacker.

Seven Past Seven: Premiere

Iris ter Schiphorst (*1956): Work commissioned by the Festival for Recorder and String Quartet (world premiere)
Franz Schubert (1797–1828): G Major String Quartet

Nowhere did Franz Schubert stretch his tonal limits more than in the G Major quartet. Its presymphonic sonority anticipates Bruckner’s and Mahler’s ideas, testing the limits of harmonic tonality and capturing the listener with its perceptibly existential struggle for expression. Typically for the Hitzacker Summer Festival, this extreme work of the traditional repertoire will be juxtaposed with the innovative challenge of a world premiere. The commissioned work was created by Iris der Schiphorst, born in 1956 in Hamburg, Germany.
