Her name is essential on the list of the most exciting musicians of the 21st century: violinist Veronika Eberle. Born in 1988 in Donauwörth, she emerged as a top-notch student of Ana Chumachenco at the Munich University of Music. At just 16 years of age, she made her debut at the Salzburg Easter Festival with Beethoven's Violin Concerto, performed with the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle. Since then, all the great conductors from Bernard Haitink to Andris Nelsons have relied on her as a soloist. Above all, Veronika Eberle is a passionate chamber musician. In keeping with the number “Four”, which has subtly influenced our program for 2024, she will also be performing "solo" on the four strings of her Stradivarius, with Pierre Boulez's Anthèmes 1, a work for solo violin inspired by hymnal songs and reflecting on the number seven – akin to the seven laments. A state of suspension between major and minor keys characterizes Johannes Brahms' Violin Sonata Op. 78. His biographer Max Kahlbeck described it as "a double song of springtime that brings the past back to bloom with the present while reminding us of the transience of time." With "Distance de Fée," Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu created in his youth an elegiac piece full of incredible color and of almost impressionistic quality. It leads to the final piece of this program, one of the great violin sonatas of the Fin de Siècle, whose four movements are permeated by the motif of a falling third. The sonata, composed in 1886, was dedicated by Franck as a wedding gift to violinist Eugene Ysaÿe.
